Mazus reptans
creeping mazus
This pond plant dies right back in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.
- Position: full sun
- Soil: moderately fertile, reliably moist soil
- Depth of water: 0-5cm
- Rate of growth: average to fast
- Flowering period: May to July
- Hardiness: fully hardy
Originating from marshy regions throughout the Himalayas, this low-growing perennial spreads to form a creeping green carpet. Perfect for filling gaps between paving slabs or greening up the outer edges of a pond. The purple-blue flowers that appear in late spring and early summer add to the appeal. - Garden care: Prefers consistent soil moisture but not fully submerged for long periods so best sited 5-10cm above the waterline of any pond to cater for any seasonal water level changes. Protect from slugs and snails and divide over-large clumps in spring.
