This perennial is semi-evergreen so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: June to August
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

‘Bressingham’ is a delightful, evergreen addition to any rock garden, forming a low cushion or carpet of grassy green leaves adorned with striking rose-pink flowers in late spring. Soapworts also work well as edging or in gravel scree or alpine trough gardens, thriving in well-drained yet moisture-retentive soils, where they love to spread their roots among rocks. They look particularly beautiful when grown alongside silver-leaved companions such as Helianthemum and Convolvulus cneorum. Becomes drought resistant once established.

  • Garden care: Cut back hard after flowering to maintain a compact habit. Lift and divide congested clumps in autumn or spring.
