- A gift set of basil herb seeds, compost pellets, and instructions presented within a beautifully painted metal planter. An ideal gift that contains everything needed for a budding gardener (or chef!) who is looking to grow basil from seed, the leaves of which are used to flavour Mediterranean dishes, pesto and other culinary accompaniments. Grows to 30cm.
Growing instructions: Make the compost by placing the peat-free compost pellet in a suitable mixing container and add 350ml of lukewarm water. Allow to stand and expand for 30-60 minutes, drain off any excess water and mix compost well. You may have compost than you require and more water could be required if the compost mix is looking dry.
When ready to plant, fill 80% of the planter with compost, scatter seeds evenly on the surface, cover with a very thin layer of compost and gently moisten. Move to a warm, well-lit area; a windowsill is ideal but full sunshine will dry out the compost rapidly. The compost must be kept moist at all times, never being allowed to dry out. Seeds will germinate after approximately 3-4 weeks.
