This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: Full sun to partial shade
  • Soil: Moderately fetile, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: Fast
  • Flowering period: February to March
  • Hardiness: Fully hardy

'Pearson's Prolific' is a multi-stemmed cobnut boasting green leaves that transition to a pale yellow in autumn. This variety offers a late winter spectacle with abundant yellow catkins that open into a bountiful yield of small to medium-sized, flavourful nuts come September. Quick harvesting is advised to outsmart any curious squirrels! Being a native UK species, it also brings benefits to local wildlife.

  • Garden care:
Bare-root plants should be planted out as soon as they arrive. If this is not possible, they can be heeled in temporarily (covering their roots with soil) or potted up. Before planting, soak the rootball in a bucket of water for half an hour and make sure to incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole. Cut out dead, diseased and damaged wood in March and apply a 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the base of the plant.
