Clematis florida var. flore-pleno 'Plena'
early large flowered clematis (group 2)
This climber is semi-evergreen, so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new foliage appears again in spring.
- Position: full sun
- Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: June to September
- Hardiness: fully hardy
Extremely unusual clematis with creamy greeny-white flowers with double centres which appear from early summer to early autumn. It has semi-evergreen, mid-green foliage and thin stems, which means it is best trained through a wall shrub for support or grown in a container. - Garden care: Remove dead and damaged stems before growth begins in early spring, cutting all remaining stems back to where strong buds are visible. Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.
- Humans: Skin irritant; Pets: Harmful if eaten
