This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: July to August
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

A stunning and unusual variety of this strikingly coloured, small ornamental specimen, also known as the golden rain tree. Coral-red shoots and fern-like foliage emerge in spring, becoming green as the season progresses. The stems often keep their red colouration, with strong autumn colours of yellows and orange, making this a good alternative to Rhus typhina. In late summer, golden-yellow panicles of flowers (golden rain) are followed by attractive fruit.

  • Garden care: Dig a square hole to the depth of your pot and twice as wide. For effective establishment, we advise applying Mycorrhizal root grow, especially if you have poor soil. If so, improve the growing environment by combining half of the original substrate with good-quality compost/well aged organic matter. Fill in the hole and firm around gently. Support your plant with a stake and tie and if required, a rabbit guard.
  • CAUTION toxic if eaten/skin & eye irritant
