An evergreen with long, mid-green fronds divided into wedge-shaped leaflets reminiscent of the maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba), and tinged red when young. An unusual tropical fern for a shady, humid spot such as a bathroom corner or a kitchen shelf out of direct sun.

Please note that the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a simple nursery alternative), but we have a wide and wonderful range on our website to choose from.

  • Home care: Grow in moist but well-drained, humus-rich compost in bright, filtered light with high humidity, possibly by introducing a water-filled pebble tray to avoid browning leaf-tips. Didymochlaena are best kept moist for reliable summer growth. Allow the soil's top third to dry in between waters, reducing this slightly further in the autumn and winter. A position that offers indirect light must be assured, due to their susceptibility to sun-scorch.
