This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

The soft blend of harmonious tones, paired with the contrasting silhouettes of the flowers, make this easy to grow combination very appealing. In this collection, you will receive one of each of the following varieties, both supplied in 9cm pots.

  • Geranium 'Orion'
A bigger Geranium, which is covered with clear violet-blue flowers, with red veining and a white centre, throughout the summer. Its spreading habit makes it ideal for quick growing, summer groundcover. Ht. 1m.

  • Salvia nemorosa 'Amethyst'
Providing colour for several months from midsummer, the slender upright spires of this sage are clothed in purple-pink buds, which open from the base upwards to lilac-purple, hooded flowers. Plant it towards the front of a sunny, well-drained border, or create drifts through a prairie-style garden where the bees and butterflies will flock to the flowers. Ht. 1m.

  • Garden care: Prepare the ground well by digging in lots of composted organic matter before planting. In midsummer rejuvenate the geranium by cutting back the old, flowered stems, and fresh new growth will soon appear. You can usually extend the flowering season of the salvia by removing the flower spikes as soon as they start to fade. Keep well watered until the plants are established, and apply a generous mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plants in spring.
