Add sumptuous colour to your borders and cut-flower vases with these lavish-looking dahlias that will bloom well into autumn. Dahlia 'Burlesca' features warm apricot flowers turning dusky plum, 'Gipsy Night' boasts velvety claret blooms, and 'Jowey Winnie' enchants with a mix of pink, purple, and apricot flowerheads.

In each collection you will receive one tuber of each of the following cultivars:

  • Dahlia 'Burlesca': Tightly inrolled petal-like rays form rounded heads to around 5cm across, on slender stems that turn crimson as they age. The colouring of these flowerheads is an exquisite blend of warm apricot, which turns dusky plum as they mature. This colouring is quite distinctive - and it makes them ideal for tying in different colourways in the planting scheme. Grows to 1m.

  • Dahlia 'Gipsy Night': As soon as we saw this sumptuous dahlia in the trial beds, it jumped straight to the top of our favourites list! It is very generous with its smallish (up to 7cm wide), ball-shaped heads, which are a plush, velvety shade of claret. It looked stunning with just about everything we paired it with, and it will add real oomph when woven through the border. Grows to 1m.

  • Dahlia 'Jowey Winnie': As the flowerheads of this fabulous dahlia are a rich mix of pink, purple and apricot, it makes them incredibly easy to place in the border. Also, their rounded heads, which can grow to around 10cm across, are invaluable for adding structural interest - in both the garden and the vase. Grows to 1m.

  • Garden care: Dahlia tubers can be planted outside after frost, or started off in pots under glass in late winter to early spring. Plant them horizontally approximately 12cm deep, making sure the ‘eyes’ are uppermost. Allow enough room between each tuber so the plants can grow and spread to their full size without being overcrowded. While in growth, provide a high-nitrogen liquid feed each week in June, then a high-potash fertiliser each week from July to September. Stake with canes or brushwood if it becomes necessary. In mild areas, leave them in situ over winter, but protect the crown with a generous layer of dry mulch. In colder areas, carefully lift and clean the tubers once the first frosts have blackened the foliage and allow them to dry naturally indoors. Then place the dry tubers in a shallow tray, just covered with slightly moist potting compost, sand or vermiculite and store in a frost-free place until planting out again.
    • Humans/Pets: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten
