This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: moderately fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast
  • Flowering period: June to September
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need protection in winter)

This perennial snapdragon has a really long flowering period, often producing its rich pink blooms all through summer and well into autumn if they are deadheaded regularly. The flowers are sought after by pollinating insects, and can last up to 2 weeks if cut for the vase. It does have a better resistance to fungal diseases than existing cultivars, but it can be short-lived. Having said that, if grown in a sunny spot with well drained soil it will usually last a few years.

  • Garden care: Deadhead the flowers on a regular basis (or cut them for the vase) to prolong the flowering season.
