The petals of this showy tulip are a rich shade of magenta, becoming paler towards the outer edges. They form good-sized bowl-shaped blooms, which have a discreet but sweet perfume. Plant them near a seating area or doorway, where this can best be appreciated, and mix them with purple, blue and pale pinks. Double early tulips are tough and robust so are also ideal for planting in windy areas, and they are also one of the best tulips for pots and windowboxes.

  • Garden care: From September to December plant the bulbs 15-20cm deep and 10-15cm apart in fertile, well-drained soil. Alternatively, allow 7-9 bulbs per 30cm sq. After flowering deadhead and apply a balanced liquid fertiliser each week for the first month. Once the foliage has died down naturally lift the bulbs and store in a cool greenhouse.
  • Humans: Harmful if eaten; skin allergen; Pets: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten
