The plants in this collection will die right back in autumn, then fresh new growth will appear again in spring.

Sedums and asters are two of the best plants for adding late colour into the garden - and these two look particularly good together.

In this collection you will receive three of each of the following plants. They are all supplied in a 9cm nursery pot.

  • Sedum telephium (Atropurpureum Group) 'Karfunkelstein': The fleshy green leaves have a purple tint when they first appear and this becomes more pronounced as they mature until they turn almost beetroot purple. The bright pink flowers emerge in tight clusters late in the summer and will stay on the plant for many months, although their colour will fade. This versatile perennial is a perfect filler plant for a sunny, well-drained spot. A valuable late source of nectar for butterflies and bees, the dried flowerheads provide structure and colour in the winter garden. Grows to 30cm.

  • Aster amellus 'Veilchenkönigin': Masses of yellow-centred purple daisies, each up to 5cm across, appear on these compact and mildew-resistant plants. Plant them in clumps or more informal drifts throughout the front of the border and they will give you a good couple of months of colour. Team them with pinks or softer shades of purple as well as silver. Grows to 40cm.

  • Planting tips: Prepare the bed well by digging in lots of composted organic matter before you plant. For best results it is essential that the plants are kept well watered for the first year, particularly during warmer weather.
