This shrub is semi-evergreen, so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new foliage appears again in spring.

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: Moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: Fast
  • Flowering period: July and August
  • Hardiness: Fully hardy

Dense clusters of white flowers in July and August followed by shiny, spherical, black fruit and oval, yellow-margined, rich-green leaves. This vigorous, versatile, golden privet will happily grow in any well-drained soil. It makes an attractive hedge for a sunny urban or suburban site, retaining its leaves in all but the coldest winters.

  • Garden care:
Plant immediately upon arrival into a well-cultivated area. Trim the hedge twice or three times during the growing season providing there are no nesting birds present. Apply a 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the base of the plants in early spring.
    • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten
