This perennial is semi-evergreen so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: deep, light, preferably alkaline, sharply drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: April to June
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

This gorgeous perennial forms a loose, spreading mound of grey-green leaves, topped with a mass of small, lightly scented, white flowers, which take on a pink blush as they mature. Appearing over several months from mid-spring, they are rich in nectar (so sought after by pollinators), and they add a wonderful burst of colour to pots, alpine beds or border edges.

  • Garden care: Cut back after flowering to encourage a new flush of foliage. Lift and divide large clumps in autumn.
